Words from Past Participants

I found myself really exhausted this weekend and struggling to crack our book open. I was utterly emotionally spent after the past four weeks of intense activity. I felt like I couldn't do another "emotional" thing and handle this material... I didn't know if I'd even be able to join the call for fear of crying the entire time or saying nonsensical things. I asked God why he allowed me to sign up for a class if he knew I'd have to manage a hurricane and kidney issues with my new grandson requiring medical attention all while work/life is very busy!! I felt as if I can't absorb the material.

He answered my question with each of your faces. I truly am at a better place today than I was 10 weeks ago. Your insights and testimonies, as well as the courage and strength each of you have exhibited, have made a big impact on me, resulting in real, every day en{courage}ment in me.

I was comforted by the homework... Iris told me this course would be very hard and heavy. It has been. I allowed the tears to flow as I did the homework, and it was just what I needed. I am so grateful for the chance to learn this material - God seems to be highlighting abuse stories here and there. Difficult material, a very difficult month personally, and yet such good results.

As a person who had been abused and neglected during childhood, completing Mending the Soul has changed my perspective of that period of my life. I no longer feel ashamed, disgraced, or responsible for the actions of my perpetrators. I know now that it could never have been my fault. I know God loves me, and he was always there with me. I would recommend the Mending the Soul group to anyone who has gone through any type of abuse. It is a healing program.

These groups came to me at a time when I was isolated, misunderstood and alone. At the first meeting, I found understanding, sisterhood, and mercy for my circumstances. If there was an issue I was struggling through, there was someone in the group who either had experienced it directly or had skills and empathy that I desperately needed. I am so thankful for Iris and her tenderhearted and gracious ways. She leads our weary wounded hearts well.

I've been participating in Iris's groups for 3 years...I really can't imagine not being in a group. For me it is like a mini counseling session each time I attend. Groups always give me perspective and I truly hope I can add something to each one I attend as well. There is something really special and safe about our groups. There is a great sense of caring that emits from each woman involved. Never judgement, just love.
